Float fishing from the pier during the summer (daytime only) produces mackerel, scad, garfish, pollack, mullet and small pout. Bottom fishing during daylight can produce some very good plaice, and bass with the ocasional Tub Gurnard, while in the evening (upto 10.00pm) pout, sole and painted ray can be had.
Best baits:- Use small strips of mackerel, a fillet of sandeel or a lure for the mackerel and garfish., ragworm for the pollack and bread for the mullet, fish bait or worm for all others. No feathers allowed on the pier and tickets are available from the hut next to the bumper cars.
Parking available along the sea front (although does get rather crowded during the summer season) and in car parks off of the high street.
Caution whilst fishing from the pier beware of the lesser weaver, contact should be avoided.
Fishing from the beach at Yaverland is best done at night, as the beach gets extremely crowded. Casting long distance with rag or lugworm can produce some good plaice, sole, bass and pout. Walking east towards Redcliff the sea bed becomes increasingly rocky and the quality of fishing improves. Further east still and you come to Whitecliff Bay, a small bay of sand, shingle and rock. A spot worth trying for plaice, sole, mullet and some large bass and conger.
Ample parking in car park on the sea front.
